SAMPLE -- It Could be Worse
Both women are preparing to pray. Pastor first. The sketch has comedy built into it, but note when the serious takes over. The items (props) can be real or illusionary. The dialogue goes back and forth, pastor’s wife then missionary’s wife through the whole sketch.
Pas: -- Oh good, I have ten whole minutes free to pray before getting ready for church. I want to spend extra time on my hairdo. The Mayor might be at the service this morning.
Miss: -- Oh no, I only have ten minutes to pray before walking the two miles to our foreign missions work.
Pas: -- (She spends time getting prepared) Let’s see. I need a pad to kneel for my arthritis. And I need some tissue - never know when I’ll get touched. Put on some Gaither’s music, to help me get in the mood. I have my Bible, my books on prayer, my cassettes on prayer, my prayer wheel, and my list of needs. And I’m ready.
As Pass kneels the Missionary’s Wife places a rough mat on the floor, opens her Bible and kneels, too, taking on an attitude of prayer.
Pass: -- Dear Lord, I don’t have much time this morning, but I know if I don’t take this time to pray then the rest of my day will go really bad. And we have a special program this morning, important people are coming to hear our fabulous choir.
Miss: -- Dear Jesus, I love you so much, please forgive me for not having more time to chat. But every second in your presence is precious. I need to be spiritually ready for the service this morning. Many needy people, who are so important to you, will be with us today, to hear the message of salvation. Let there be a great outpouring of your spirit.
Pass. -- I want to take the time to thank you Lord for my new washing machine. I love the large capacity! Now my expensive down quilts don’t come out all flat and wrinkled.
Miss: -- Thank you Lord for the beautiful day yesterday. The walk to the river to wash my clothes in the communal river was invigorating.
Pass: -- Lord, I have time for only one small complaint. Could you please help Bro. Phillips run the sound system better this morning. My poor husband had to strain his voice last Sunday. And I couldn’t hear the altos during choir.
Miss: -- Lord, I hate to bother you but could you strengthen my husband’s voice, so that everyone outside of the tent, sitting on rocks and tree limbs can hear your salvation message?
