SAMPLE -- Advice and Consent
Amy enters from SR and quickly runs to the far end of the couch. She is obviously angry. Mark enters slower and crosses behind Amy.
Amy -- Don’t touch me.
Mark -- Come on, Amy.
Amy -- Leave me alone, Mark!
Mark -- (Backs up a step) All right! But let’s at least talk about it.
Amy -- I don’t want to talk about it.
Mark -- (Crosses around to sit on inside end of couch.) We have to talk about it, Amy. We can’t leave this hanging between us.
Amy -- There’s nothing between us, obviously.
Mark -- Come on!
Amy -- You don’t care enough, that’s okay, I understand.
Mark -- I do care for you.
Amy -- We’ve had a good time together and you want to move to someone else, I get it. (Stand and X to single chair, sit)
Mark -- I never said anything about moving on to someone else! Where’d that come from?
Amy -- We’ve been together for two years now. It’s time to step it up or move on. You don’t want to step it up, so you must want to move on.
Mark -- Step it up? I love you, isn’t that enough?
Amy -- If you really loved me you’d be interested in making love to me.
Mark -- (Pause to struggle with his emotions and his answer). There’s a difference between wanting to make love to you and not being ready.
Amy -- Mark, do you love me?
Mark -- Yes, you know it.
Amy -- Then what’s the problem?
Mark -- (Stand, XDSL 3) We’re not married!
