SAMPLE -- Attitudes
A boy enters, angry and upset. A girl follows him.
Rick -- I hate her! I hate her! I hate her!
Darlene -- Rick!
Rick -- I do! She's always on my case. All she does is preach. She can’t just talk to me. She doesn’t listen!
Darlene -- Rick! Stop it! Just calm down!
Rick -- You heard my mom, Darlene, she doesn’t like my friends so she finds some obscure scripture to let me know that I’m against God’s will if I hang out with them.
Darlene -- She’s scared, Rick.
Rick -- Scared of what?
Darlene -- Scared of losing you. Scared of seeing you leave the church. Scared of seeing you get hurt.
Rick -- Doesn’t she see that she’s the one driving me away?
Darlene -- How?
Rick -- By preaching all the time! I can’t stand her sermons! She’s the reason I don’t want to go to church.
Darlene -- Rick. Get real. That’s not the only reason.
Rick -- How would you know?
Darlene -- Because I hear you complaining all the time. You complain about having to dress up, about being bored, about going to so many services, about being teased during service. It’s not just your mom.
Rick -- Mainly.
Darlene -- Oh. So if your mom never preached to you you’d love to go to church?
Rick -- Well ...
Darlene -- Yeah, that’s what I thought.
