SAMPLE -- David and Goliath
Scene opens with two angels talking to God. They answer him, but we don’t hear his voice. The attitude of the angels is just this side of disrespect. They are good, yet comical. They are looking over a paper that has their assignment.
When you see “++++” this means God is talking and we wait for the angels to answer.
Dorg -- Who’s this Goliath dude?
Cam -- Some earthling who thinks he’s Mr. Tough Guy.
Dorg -- Look, Cam, he’s got six fingers!
Cam -- No wonder he’s gotta complex.
Dorg -- (To God) Are we suppose to wipe this guy out? “++++” David? Who’s David? Look up David.
Cam -- Right here, Dorg. David is a shepherd boy who is supposed to become king.
Dorg -- (Sotto Voce) He’s sending a shepherd boy to kill a giant?
Cam -- (Sotto Voce) Yes, he is. And did you see how small this dude is? David doesn’t stand a chance!
Dorg -- Excuse me, Sir? No, no! We meant no disrespect. “++++” Yes, you know what you’re doing. “++++” No, we don’t know the whole plan. “++++” Yes, your ways are better than our ways.
Cam -- (Sotto Voce) I’ve heard that before.
Dorg -- (Sotto Voce) Shut up! “++++” No, not you! Uh, I think we’ll be going now. We’ll check with you later, okay, boss? “++++” Right, David and Goliath, we got it! (Sotto Voce) Thanks a lot!
Cam -- What’d I do?
Dorg -- Getting me in trouble again!
Cam -- I’m sorry, Dorg, I didn’t mean anything by it!
Exit Dorg and Cam arguing. Enter David. He is small and wiry. He has a sling in his back pocket and he’s looking for stones.
David -- ‘Kill the giant,’ he says. ‘Are you a bunch of chickens?’ he says. ‘I don’t need your armor, Saul,’ he says. I must be crazy!
David hears Goliath approaching and he hides. Goliath enters stomps to the center and shouts.
Goliath -- Why have you come out to line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants, but if I prevail against him and kill him, then you will be our servants and serve us. I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.
