SAMPLE -- Mannequin Madness
For the sake of variety I have created a piece with no speaking parts. You need no mime skills, but try to make your objects as clear as possible.
Player One (female) is standing on a box center stage. She is posed as a mannequin, displaying a hat, scarf and purse
Players Two (female) and Three (Male) enter. They are obviously shopping for new clothes for her. He is bored silly. She has to drag him into the room. She leads him to another theater box stage right. He sits and sighs.
She goes to areas of the room exploring the various goods on display. Occasionally, she brings an item to Three and asks for his opinion. (Try to avoid any mouthing of words).
Three’s reaction to each object is a variation on a theme – yes, sure, whatever, I could care less – each reaction showing his increased boredom.
After bringing him several objects she gets frustrated with him and she gets more impatient and angrier. Finally she takes several items off of a rack and exits to the dressing room.
(If you have a small, freestanding flat – 4’ X 7’ that the actress can go behind this would be ideal.)
Up to this point Two has not disturbed the items on One.
Three is sitting, bored, yawns, and stares straight forward.
One moves her head to look at Three. Pause. Turns head to look at where Two left. Pause. Then moves to a totally different pose and freezes.
Three realizes that something has just happened, but doesn’t know what it is. He stands, looks around, shrugs and sits down.
Two enters and models for Three. He half-heartedly responds. She stomps her foot and folds her arms. One stomps her foot and folds her arms. Three catches this movement over the shoulder of Two and does a double take. Three stands up, backs away from both Two and One, staring at One.
